Niagara Regional Police have released more details concerning a drowning in the Welland Recreational Canal yesterday afternoon. Investigators responded to a 911 call shortly after one p.m. indicating a scuba diver had become separated from his partner and got trapped under the ice. His diving partner was not able to locate him and a passerby made the emergency call. The victim, reported to be in his 20’s, was located by the Welland Fire Department and CPR efforts were unsuccessful. The victim’s name has not been released and the investigation is ongoing.
