Man in 20s seriously injured in St. Catharines stabbing: police

First Published:

Niagara police say a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing early Friday morning in St. Catharines.

Officers say two masked men confronted a homeowner in the driveway of their house on Forster St. near Scott St. around 1:20 a.m.

One of the men was armed with a long gun, while the other was armed with a knife. That suspect forced their way into the house and got into a fight with one of the residents, who was then stabbed.

Police say the residents restrained and disarmed the man. He was held until officers arrived and was then arrested.

Officers cleared the house and searched the area for the other man with the long gun who was last seen running towards Scott St. However, police could not find him.

The man is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old, approximately five-foot-six and has an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a ski mask with just eye holes, dark jacket with yellow reflectors on the shoulders, dark jeans, shoes similar to Nike Air Jordans and latex gloves.

Detectives believe this was a targeted incident.

More information about the man in custody will be released when he is charged.

Anyone with information about this stabbing or the identity of the man with the long gun is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009287.
