Man, family dog killed in Simcoe house fire: OPP

First Published:

A 67-year-old man and his dog have died following a house fire in Simcoe.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says an officer was out on patrol around 10 p.m. Monday when he noticed a fire at a home on Culver St.

The officer immediately went inside the home and was able to rescue a resident from a ground floor apartment.

Due to the size of the fire, officers were unable to get into the second floor of the home and the Norfolk County Fire Department and Norfolk County Paramedic Services were called in.

Volunteer firefighters arrived on scene and were able to make their way through the residence where they located the victim and family dog.

The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Donald Adams, of Norfolk County.

Police say the dog also died in the fire.

The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office investigated the incident and determined no foul play is suspected.
