Man arrested in connection with Oakville homicide

40-year-old Brett Smith of Oakville has been charged with second degree murder of his father, Robert Smith.

On Sunday night just after 8 p.m., Halton police were called to an apartment building on Marine Dr. after receiving a report of an altercation between two men.

When emergency crews arrived, a 74-year-old man was found with signs of “obvious trauma” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halton Regional Police Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 905-825-4776 or CrimeStoppers.

Smith appeared in court on Monday.
