A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a classic corvette went up in flames in Fort Erie over the weekend.

Officers were called to the area of Dominion Rd. and Kayart Rd. around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday for a single-vehicle collision.

The crash involved a red, 1965 Chevrolet Corvette that had previously been stolen from a nearby home.

A man who witnessed the collision told CHCH News the driver was thrown from the vehicle when it flipped and rolled. The car then burst into flames.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment of what was initially believed to be life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently treated and released from hospital and is now in police custody.

Kyle Roberts, of no fixed address, has been charged with impaired driving, break and enter, drive while under suspension and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
