Man, 40, arrested for stealing package from Hamilton home

A 40-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly stole a package from a home in Hamilton.

Police say the item was delivered to a home in the area of Holton Ave. and King St. East around 11 a.m. on Mar. 26.

A short time later, a man went to the home and stole the package from the property.

The porch pirate was captured on surveillance camera and police were able to identify a suspect.

On Monday, officers arrested a Hamilton man and charged him with theft under $5,000 and possession under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court later Tuesday.

Investigators did not recover the package.

Hamilton police have provided the following tips for residents to help prevent this type of theft from happening in the future:

  • Have your package delivered to your work, friend or relative’s home
  • Have your package held at your local post office for pickup
  • Request a confirmation signature be obtained upon delivery
  • Request the package be left in a special area at the residence out of plain view
