Major fraud arrest in Hamilton

First Published:

The Hamilton Police Major Fraud Unit has made an arrest in a case involving over $100,000 in cash.

The accused was formerly a manager of a major bank in Hamilton.

It is alleged that he was obtaining fraudulent loans using real customer names but fabricating other personal information.

The accused was also the Treasurer for his Hamilton church.

His position at the bank and with the church afforded him the opportunity to misappropriate the funds from both the church and the bank.

He turned himself over to Hamilton police wishing to confess to misappropriating funds.

The misappropriation took place between 2008 and November 2010.

The total amount of the misappropriation was $113,774.

Charged is 32-year-old Mark Riemer of Hamilton with “Theft by Conversion Over $5,000”, and two counts each of “Obtain Credit by Fraud” and “Uttering Forged Documents”.
