A 26-year-old woman who is accused of murder and attempted murder has been released on bail after appearing in court Thursday afternoon.
Yun (Lucy) Lu Li and her 29-year-old boyfriend, Oliver Karafa, are charged with the first-degree murder of 39-year-old Tyler Pratt in Stoney Creek.
Pratt was gunned down in an industrial area on Arvine Ave. near Hilton Dr. on Feb. 28, 2021.
The pair also faces an attempted murder charge in connection with Pratt’s 26-year-old pregnant girlfriend who was also found on scene suffering from serious injuries.
Hamilton police say Li and Karafa fled to eastern Europe within 24 hours of the incident.
They were arrested in June 2021 and Li returned to Canada after waiving extradition.
On Thursday, Ontario Supreme Court Justice Andrew Goodman said the bail plan presented for Li was one of the most robust he had ever experienced as a judge.
Li’s mother, her main surety, pledged $2 million for bail. Two family friends, who will also be Li’s sureties, pledged $500,000 and $200,000 respectively. The judge described all three sureties as exceptional.
Li must remain in her North York home 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She will wear a GPS tracking device on her ankle and cannot have any visitors other than immediate family.
She is allowed to leave her home to attend medical appointments and exercise in her neighbourhood. Li can use the internet if she is closely supervised by one of her sureties.
Karafa remains in Hungary after losing an appeal to fight his extradition. He will be returned to Hamilton in the near future.
