A St. Catharines court heard today that the man accused in the violent murder of 82-year old George Burnett sent 2 incriminating texts as well as a letter to a friend while in jail, after the murder.

The 2 texts were sent to Richard Pryce, who testified he had a business relationship with Loujack Café. Pryce said he didn’t remember receiving the texts, saying they were sent to a cell phone used by others at the business.

The court also heard from a woman who lived in the same rooming house as Cafe. She said she would sometimes cook him meals and the 2 sent sexual texts back and forth but never had a relationship. She also told the jury she showed Cafe a newspaper article about Burnetts murder and he carried that newspaper around with him.

Then the court heard from Serge Mwanza who also lived in the rooming house. The crown showed the jury a letter they say was written to him from Cafe when they were both in jail. Part of it reads…

“you are my alibi when you see him just tell him what I told you to say”
“me and you were behind the old mans crib….”
“when we seen 2 (white people) run out of the back of the old mans crib…”
it’s signed “l Cafe”

The jury heard earlier Burnett was found in his bed stabbed more than 40 times. No fingerprints were found and there was about $600 in the home that was not taken and no sign of forced entry.
