Two women of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation were killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend near Port Dover. Donna and Deanna Sault were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a car at the intersection of Highway Six and Regional Road 70 on Saturday afternoon. According to police, they were driving South on Highway Six towards Port Dover when a car crossed the highway in front of them.

The women were thrown from their motorcycle and were pronounced dead at hospital.

Witnesses to the crash said they heard what sounded like a car backfiring before realizing what had actually happened and that the sound was a bike hitting a car.

Friend’s of Donna Sault’s, Lee Johnson and Debbie Belcastro were supposed to go for a ride with the sisters on Saturday but changed their minds. Lee met Donna during a motorcycle safety course and said that Donna had just purchased a new bike only three weeks ago and was looking forward to being able to ride with her sister, teaching her about safe riding habits.

Local residents say that a dip in Highway Six, right before the intersection, was likely a factor in the fatal crash.

Donna Sault was a veteran rider, with over 30 years of experience.

The OPP say the 68 year old driver of the car pulled onto the highway in front of the motorcycle, and will be facing charges.
