Locke Street businesses rally for the community

First Published:

As bulldozers and excavators tear up what’s remaining of Locke street, business owners are thinking up new ways to get people onto the street lined with shops and restaurants.

Tonight’s “All roads lead to Locke” businesses will be open until 9 o’clock, many will be out on the side walk selling discounted items. The 7.5 million dollar construction project that began this spring is taking a toll on businesses on a hot Friday afternoon, patios were empty sidewalks bare, restaurants with rows of empty tables.

Despite the construction several business owners say it’s heartwarming to see familiar faces through their doors, people that are making an effort to shop on Locke despite the mess.

All roads lead to Locke’ will feature live music and free family activities to liven up the street. The construction is expected to end in November.
