A young singer from Hamilton is getting her big break. Roslyn Witter will perform in front of her biggest audience ever tomorrow night when she takes the stage with country singer Keith Urban this Saturday.

The stage is set. Roslyn Witter was doing a sound check inside Tim Hortons Field ahead of tomorrow’s big night. We got a chance to sit down with the budding star earlier today to talk about the good news.

It was a phone call that changed Roslyn Witter’s life.

Roslyn Witter: “He was like ‘how’s your day going, my days going really well. But yours is going to get a whole lot better. And in that moment my heart just sank.”

The 19-year-old Hamilton native learned yesterday that she would perform alongside country singer Keith Urban tomorrow night at Tim Hortons Field.

Witter beat out hundreds of contestants with her rendition of Urban and Miranda Lamberts’ “We were Us”.

Roslyn: “I ran outside and I’m like, mom I won, I won! and I’m balling hysterically.”

Witter’s mother, Rebecca says she saw her daughter crying but knew they were tears of joy: “We just jumped up and down, and hugged each other and spun around in circles. I think I screamed so loud the whole neighbourhood heard me.”

Witter grew up surrounded by country music. Her father is award winning country singer Jim Witter.

As a child, Roslyn even made a cameo in her father’s music video for “Tough as a Pickup Truck”.

Roslyn: “I’ve been singing since I could talk, so I’ve been performing with him since I was three or four years old. And he’s been such an influence, so supportive of me.”

When Roslyn isn’t working part-time at American Eagle, she’s practicing her music in her basement recording studio.

The fact that she won the contest shows her practice is paying off.

Roslyn: “I’ve taken a year off, working on music. This was so rewarding.”

Witter took a year off after graduating from Westmount Secondary to focus on music. She says she can’t see herself doing anything else.

Witter says she’s anxious and nervous to perform with Urban: “I’m hoping I don’t pass out when I get on stage.”

It going to be an extra special evening for Roslyn’s mother. The pair we hoping to take in the Keith Urban concert for the first time together. But Rebecca will have to watch her budding star daughter perform alongside Keith Urban Tickets are still available for the show.
