The much-anticipated new superhero series Naomi has arrived on The CW.
Latin actress Camila Moreno can be seen in her first major leading acting role as a series regular.
She plays the role of ‘Lourdes’ and joined Bob Cowan on Morning Live with all the details about this exciting opportunity.
Naomi was developed by Ava DuVernay and is based on the 2019 comic series with the same name by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell.
The new show, which premiered on the CW on Jan. 11, follows the journey of a girl from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event occurs in her hometown, Naomi sets out to discover its origins and what she finds out will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.
Moreno plays the role of Lourdes, a young woman with a sarcastic sense of humour who works in a vintage collectibles shop and joins Naomi on her journey.
“She’s a young woman who is very decided on who she is,” Moreno said. “She’s not afraid to show the world who she is. I think you have to be very brave to be like that and it’s refreshing to see.”
Moreno was born in Puerto Rico, where she attended university and majored in acting.
Before graduating, she auditioned for the master of fine arts program at New York University. Moreno became one of 16 people who were accepted into the graduate program out of 800 applicants. While at the school, she played characters such as Cordelia in King Lear and Ophelia in Hamlet.
