Large industrial fire in Hamilton’s east end causes over $800K in damage


The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to the scene of a large industrial fire in Hamilton’s east end.

The fire started at the Service 1 Truck and Trailer repair centre on Kenora Ave. around 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Hamilton Police say an employee was working on a vehicle in the building at the time of the blaze.

Fire officials say they suspect sparks from a cutting torch set the vehicle ablaze.

That employee was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The fire spread quickly and caused extensive damage to the building, causing the roof to collapse.

Hamilton Fire says there are five businesses in the building. Damage is contained to to one of the businesses but there is extensive smoke and water damage throughout.

Firefighters have been at the building Thursday night and Friday morning.

The fire department has notified the Ministry of the Environment because of the materials in the building, which includes hazardous goods.
