Korean War veterans honoured in Burlington

First Published:

Today marks Korean War Veterans Day and in Burlington those who fought and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice were honoured.

In 1950, just five years after the end of the Second World War, Communist armies from the north invaded South Korea. Today, thousands of brave Canadians who fought in the Korean War were honoured. Many answering the call of duty for a second time.

Canada was one of 16 United Nations member countries to deploy combat forces in support of South Korea. Nearly 27,000 Canadians put their lives on the line to protect democracy and freedom.

Over 500 Canadians were killed during the Korean War.
