Loblaw is catching up with consumer demand over ketchup.

Just days after announcing it won’t sell French’s Ketchup featuring Canadain tomatoes, the grocery giant has reversed its decision.

On Monday, Loblaw announced it would stop selling French’s Ketchup at all its stores including No Frills, Superstore and Fortinos due to declining sales.

Many consumers were shocked by the decision.  It came just a month after a Facebook post about French’s Canadian Ketchup went viral.

In a Facebook post made by Orillia’s Brian Fernandez, he said would no longer buy Heinz Ketchup since the company closed its Leamington plant, taking 750 jobs with it. But he thanked French’s for using Ontario-grown tomatoes.

The post was shared more than 100 000 times.

Loblaw’s decision to delist French’s Ketchup lead to a social media uproar in the last 24 hours including a call from a Toronto MPP to boycott the grocery chain.  Following the online backlash, Loblaw announced Tuesday, it will be putting French’s Ketchup back on its shelves.

Loblaw’s VP of Communication told CHCH “We’ve heard our Loblaws customers. We will re-stock French’s Ketchup and hope that the enthusiam we are seeing in the media and on social media translates into sales of the product.”

While Loblaw says they will restock the product as soon as possible, no word yet on when that will be.
