Jason Kenny welcomes premiers to Calgary Stampede.

First Published:

Alberta Premier Jason Kenny will be welcoming other provincial leaders to a traditional white hat ceremony at the Calgary Stampede.

Premiers from Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories have all been invited to the premier’s annual Stampede pancake breakfast.

The meeting will build on discussions from the Western Premiers’ Conference in Edmonton in June where they discussed the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

Kenny warned that Alberta was ready to use provincial legislation to limit oil and gas exports to any province blocking pipelines. This clashed with B.C. Premier John Horgan’s views saying that his government would push ahead with legal challenge of that law.

The first ministers are expected to wind up their Calgary gathering by taking in some Stampede rodeo action before travelling to Saskatoon for the Council of the Federation meeting.
