Some on Ontario’s brightest minds were put to the test on Sunday afternoon at the Innovation Nation Conference.
The one-day event showcased some of the latest initiatives in technology from students in high school, college and university.
Nine teams from Ontario and Quebec participated in the Innovation Nation Robotics competition, and while all teams wanted to win, the competition was not all about bragging rights.
Not only were the students engineering skills on display, but also their imagination.
The designs were not just meant to look impressive, they were built with the intention of helping others. Speakers at the conference included the likes of Paul Cooper, the Vice-President of the company that developed Canadarm2.
Cooper says there are two qualities that he looks for in future innovators: someone who is willing to spend the time to do the homework and learn how to do hard engineering well at the same time to think creatively.
These students may be intimidating, but it is reassuring that our future is in good hands.
