Police made three separate impaired driving arrests over the weekend.

The first incident occurred on March 19, just shortly after 3am. Hamilton Police began receiving emergency 911 calls regarding a suspected impaired driver operating a Chevrolet Cobalt going east bound on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway in the westbound lanes.

The vehicle was stopped by officers as it made its way onto the Red Hill Valley Parkway without incident.

The man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the police station where he failed breath tests.

Charged was a 27 year old man from Hamilton and charged with impaired driving.

The second incident occurred on March 19, shortly after 5am. Hamilton Police responded to the area of Fennell Avenue West and West 5th Street to investigate reports of a vehicle that lost control mounting the sidewalk area and damaging multiple hydro poles which caused power outages in the area.

The driver attempted to evade police but was arrested a short distance away and suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

The man was transported to the police station where he failed breath tests.

Police also seized a small amount of marijuana from the man.

The area was closed to vehicles and pedestrians for a majority of the day until power was later restored to the area after crews replaced a number of hydro poles and deemed the area safe from any ongoing hazards as a result of the damages caused by the collision.

Charged was a 25 year old man from Hamilton with charges of impaired driving and possession of marijuana.

The third incident occurred, March 21 just before 1:30am. A Hamilton police officer observed a car swerving and drifting between lanes as it travelled east along Barton Street East near Ottawa Street north.

The officer stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver and investigate further.

The officer could smell the slight odour of alcohol on the man’s breath and administered a roadside screening device.

The man registered a fail as a result and was arrested and transported to the police station for additional tests which the man failed.

The officer also seized brass knuckles during the investigation.

Charged with impaired driving and possession of a prohibited weapon was a 20 year old male from Hamilton.
