A multi-month investigation into an alleged case of human trafficking in Niagara Falls has ended with an arrest.
Police say they started looking into the matter in May after learning about a person over 18 who was being bought and sold.
It remains unclear where and how these transactions were taking place, but according to the charges, they were sexual.
Police say that, as the investigation unfolded, they identified their primary suspect as a woman who was going by the alias “Candy.”
On May 8, they were able to identify the woman’s true identify and make an arrest.
Hung Mei Wong, 56, of Niagara Falls was taken into custody by Niagara human trafficking detectives and charged with the following:
- Trafficking in persons by recruiting
- Procuring
- Material benefit from sexual services
- Financial/material benefit from trafficking person over 18 years
- Advertising another person’s sexual services
She remains in custody and is scheduled to undergo a bail hearing on May 9.
At this time, police have not commented on the well-being of the victim involved in this case but do say they believe there may be more.
