Hudak: Why I should be Premier

First Published:

Nine months from tonight we will be on the eve of a provincial election.

In his first remarks of the year at Queen’s Park Wednesday, PC leader Tim Hudak talked about why he should be Premier. “Dalton McGuinty’s recent conversion to spending restraint simply cannot be trusted.”

Hudak says the McGuinty government will double Ontario’s debt by next year; has increased spending 70-percent in seven years; and has created a deficit higher than all of the nine other provinces combined.

He says Ontarians will have a clear choice on election day. What he was less clear on though, is how he will cut spending. “Spending needs to reflect the ability of families to pay the bills. And you cannot continue at a rate where the economy’s growing by nine percent and your spending increase has been some 70%. There’s no doubt there’ll be challenges. It’s not going to be easy to dig out of such a massive hole.”

Hudak added public sector contracts need to reflect private sector realities.
