High school students compete as FIRST Robotics visits McMaster

Some of the brightest robotics students in the country have been battling it out at McMaster University over the weekend.

On Sunday, over 1,000 students, volunteers and sponsors took part in this year’s FIRST Robotics Canada district competition in Hamilton.

All participants are high school students partaking in one of Canada’s premier STEM competitions.

It was held in the David Braley Athletic Centre on campus, with the main competition happening in the Burridge Gym.

Each student had to design and build robots to solve a problem. The winners from yesterday’s event go on to compete at the provincial level.

The manager of the competition, William Neal, says this is one of the most valuable experiences a student can have.

Over $1-million in scholarships and research awards are available.
