The federal government is giving the YWCA Hamilton $240,000 to help women advance into non-traditional careers.

The funding will help women enter the construction and manufacturing industries. The Hamilton YWCA will establish an advisory committee with women apprentices, industry partners and community groups.

YWCA Hamilton CEO Denise Doyle says the money will also help create a specific action plan to increase the number of women working in nontraditional fields.

“We want to find real solutions to try to encourage women to start moving towards more non-traditional occupations. And we think that this work is going to be helpful and provide us with the research and the partnerships we need to ensure that we can encourage and get more women entering those fields.”

The funding will help over the next three years.
