Hamilton residents face power outage amidst extreme cold warning

First Published:

A power outage continues in a Hamilton neighbourhood, posing risks to residents in the midst of an extreme cold warning for the area.

Alectra Utilities first shared details about the outage around 7 a.m. this morning, saying approximately 560 homes and businesses were without power. At the time of publication, Alectra is reporting just over 250 customers without power.

The outage is in the area of Kenilworth Ave. North to Nash Rd., and from Barton St. East to Burlington St.

The cause of the outage is reported as an underground distribution problem and Alectra says crews have been dispatched to make repairs.

As it nears six hours since customers had power, concerns are mounting about pipes freezing and the well-being of vulnerable residents.

Alectra says the estimated time for power restoration is today at 7 p.m. Visit Alectra Utilities website for continual updates.
