Hamilton Police Service is asking for the public’s help in naming its newest Mounted Patrol Unit horse.
The two-year-old Percheron cross is set to hit the streets in early Spring.
The new horse will join Barron, Griffin, Lincoln, MacNab, and Rhli before Barron retires from service in late 2020.
Residents should consider one of the following criteria when choosing a name. It must:
- reflect Hamilton Police Service’s vision, mission, and values
- have significance to the Hamilton community
- have a connection to local military heritage
- be named after a former Hamilton Police officer
Entries can be submitted online by clicking here or through email to info@hamiltonpolice.on.ca until March 15.
The name will be announced the week of March 23.
The Mounted Patrol Unit was established in January 2010 as an operational police unit and its mandate is to offer high visibility policing, crowd management and active crime prevention in Hamilton. The unit also works closely with the ACTION Team to respond to areas identified by hotspot analysis that require focused proactive patrol.
