Hamilton Police say they’re stepping up enforcement on speed and excessive noise.
It’s called “Project Drag Strip 8” and it will first focus on Highway 8 between Centennial Parkway and Fifty Road. Police will then target other areas across the city.
Police have handed out 133 stunt-driving tickets since January. That’s compared to 80 in 2019.
Hamilton Police say there has also been an increase in community complaints related to modified vehicles and excessive noise.
Niagara police are also going after loud cars and trucks. Officers there say they’ve noticed an increased number of vehicles that have removed their mufflers or replaced their original mufflers with aftermarket parts designed to increase the noise of the exhaust to unacceptable levels.
Drivers could face an $85 fine and a safety inspection for the vehicle. Any unsafe vehicles could then be towed from the roadside.
