Hamilton police investigate early morning shooting

First Published:

Hamilton police are investigating after officers were called to an early morning shooting on Sunday.

Police responded to the area of Main St. West and Margaret St. shortly after 3:30 a.m.

A rideshare driver told police he had picked up three people near Main St. West and Paradise Rd. South.

The driver said it appeared the group was involved in an incident before he had arrived because once the trio got inside the vehicle, two men approached them. The men spoke with one of the occupants and then walked away.

A short time later, the driver heard the sounds of gunshots and he immediately drove off.

The three passengers then quickly got out of the vehicle and the driver contacted police.

Police say the vehicle was “damaged by projectiles” and has been seized for examination.

No one was injured in what police believe was a “targeted” shooting.

Investigators are trying to identify all five people involved in the incident.

Police are asking residents and business owners in the area to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity.

This is the city’s 21st shooting incident so far in 2019.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Det. Cst. Haddad or Det. Cst. Moran at 905-546-3817.
