Hamilton police say 2 dead, 2 injured in multi-vehicle crash Sunday night

A caution, the video in this story is disturbing. The video is a part of the investigation, which involves Ontario’s police watchdog.

The Special Investigations Unit says two men are dead and two others are injured following a multi-vehicle collision late Sunday night.

Ontario’s top police watchdog says there was an “interaction” between a Hamilton police officer and a man driving erratically on John St. near Forest Ave. shortly before 11 p.m.

The SIU says the man in the vehicle fled northbound on John St., striking and killing two male passengers in another vehicle travelling westbound on Young St. The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that fled from the police was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police Service Const. Indy Bharaj says four vehicles were involved in the crash, including an empty parked car and a forensic services van. He says a Jeep smashed into the parked car.

A portion of John St. South was closed as the Special Investigations Unit investigated and crews cleaned up the debris, but it has since reopened.
