A Hamilton man is now facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of his step-father.

Officers were called to 1968 Main St. W, in the Ainslie Wood West neighbourhood, around 4 p.m. on Mar. 14.

They found 73-year-old George Howson with serious injuries.

His 54-year-old step-son, Timothy Brown, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault.

Police say Howson died from his injuries on Wednesday. His death is the fourth homicide of 2021.

The charge against Brown, who police say has no criminal history, will be upgraded to second-degree murder.

The major crime unit is now in charge of the case.
