Hamilton man charged with sexual assault and mischief

Police are investigating after an incident late Tuesday afternoon involving sexual assault and vandalism in Hamilton.

Police say a man approached a woman outside a home in the area of 66 Victoria Ave. and asked her for sex.

When she said “no,” the man pinned her against a wall and sexually assaulted her.

She was able to break free and call police.

Officers found the man in the area a short time later and arrested him.

Police do not know if the incident is isolated.

The man and woman did not know each other prior to the incident.

While in police custody, the man damaged the inside of a Hamilton Police Service vehicle.

Police charged a 31-year-old Hamilton man with sexual assault and mischief under $5,000 in connection with the incident.

Police say the victim is fine and did not go to hospital.
