Hamilton identified as an ‘anchor city’

The city of Hamilton is being hailed as Canada’s affordable “anchor city.”

According to a report by Colliers International, Hamilton has become an enticing destination for various industries and businesses. Rising costs and longer commutes in larger cities like toronto have made medium-size cities like Hamilton much more attractive for companies.

The report says Hamilton’s educated labour force, especially in the education and medical fields, were also contributing factors.

While Hamilton is still known as “Steeltown”, its image is changing. Jason Thorne of Hamilton Economic Development put it this way to CHCH News: “I think it is still ‘steeltown’; steel is still a big part of our economy and this is still a manufacturing town and there is nothing wrong with that.”

“I think we embrace that… but we are a lot more than just that.”

“One of the things I don’t think people realize is that we have one of the most diversified economies in the country. There are employment opportunities across many sectors and more and more people are starting to realize that.”

The number of Torontonians setting up shop in Hamilton is also on the rise.

Kate Carnegie will have that side of the story tonight on the Evening News at 6.
