Hamilton Councillor Brad Clark resigns from committee following leaked call

First Published:

The City of Hamilton’s Ward 9 Councillor Brad Clark has resigned from multiple committees following a private call that was shared on social media.

“The unfounded rumours and inferences that I made on this private call were just that, unfounded,” said Clark in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “My frustration with the situation in question and my response was completely out of character and I should not have been discussing such baseless rumours with anyone.”

The statement says that Clark had a conversation recently with one of his constituents that was recorded without his knowledge.

Clark says he formally apologized to the Mayor, City Council and his constituents for the “unacceptable response”. He says he has filed a request with the integrity commissioner to investigate the matter as soon as possible.

Clark has resigned as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee, Vice-Chair of the Emergency and Community Services Committee, and Chair of the Development Charge Stakeholders Sub-Committee, effective immediately.

CHCH News has spoken to Clark but the Councillor says he cannot discuss the situation further because he filed the integrity commissioner request.

The link to the alleged conversation is on Youtube.
