The Hamas militant group has accepted a cease-fire proposal brokered by the Egyptian and Qatari governments.
The two Middle Eastern nations have been working with Israel and Hamas for months to reach an agreement to lay down arms.
On Monday, it was reported that senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh delivered his remarks to both the Qatari president and an Egyptian intelligence minister in which he accepted the deal.
The news comes as Israel’s plans to invade Rafah grow nearer.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Rafah is the last major Hamas stronghold that has managed to hold out, and seizing it is vital to ensuring the militant group does not recover any of its military capabilities in the future.
Both Hamas and a mediator from Qatar have stated that a ground invasion in Rafah would derail the ongoing efforts made by the international community to reach any deal.
