Halton police are hoping the public can help identify a man who is wanted in connection with a mail theft and identify fraud scheme.
Police say someone stole and, in some cases, redirected mail from a condo building in Milton between November 2018 and May 2019.
The information was used to take over several victims’ bank accounts and add on supplementary cardholders. New credit card accounts were then opened under the victims’ names online.
Police say the man in the surveillance images used the fake credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars on products and gift cards across the Greater Toronto Area.
“Six victims have been identified at this time with a possibility of more who have not reported the fraudulent account activity to police due to financial institutions reimbursing the financial loss,” said Halton police in a news release.
The suspect is described as black, 35 to 45 years old, and having a clean-shaven face. He often wears Under Armour brand clothing.
