Halton police install side-camera technology to tackle distracted driving

First Published:

Halton police have a new tool to help combat distracted driving in the region.

The police service is installing side-camera technology to their vehicles in an effort to modernize evidence collection practices and find an innovative way to tackle distracted driving.

Since January, Halton police have laid more than 1,000 distracted driving charges.

“The public continues to identify distracted driving as a primary threat to road safety,” said Halton police in a news release. “Police are hopeful the use of side camera technology will be a game-changer and that drivers will keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.”

Police say they are balancing the public’s right to privacy with public safety while using the in-car camera system.
