Ontario Provincial Police kick off a one-year study of body-worn cameras, with officers from the Haldimand detachment taking part.
Uniform members of the Haldimand Detachment, members of the OPP West Region Emergency Response team and members of the West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team will wear the cameras starting Tuesday.
Officers taking part in the study will turn on the camera before arriving at a call for service and at the earliest opportunity, prior to contact with a member of the public.
The camera will be in plain view and will have lights to show it is active.
“The OPP has conducted a comprehensive review of policies and procedures developed by our partner police agencies as it relates to the use and privacy impacts of [body-worn cameras],” said an OPP news release.
“Procedures have been created to address potential privacy concerns and to ensure the security of the video once it has been recorded during the course of this study.”
