OPP say a Hagersville resident was defrauded of $150,000 over a period of six months.
Police say on Dec. 20 the Haldimand OPP began an investigation that revealed a seemingly legitimate property transaction resulted in victims sending money in U.S. funds to a fake realtor from Chicago.
The Hagersville resident realized they were a victim of fraud and discontinued sending funds to the U.S. company and contacted police.
OPP say people should never give out personal information to someone they don’t know and should always verify all contact information and not call a number or email that an unknown person provides.
Police are asking anyone who has been a victim of fraud to contact them at 1-888-495-8501
