The University of Guelph’s Food Institute estimates the average Canadian household spent an extra $325 on food this year. Next year, they expect we’ll pay another $345.
Grocery chains blame increased food costs and a sinking Canadian dollar for higher prices, especially for fresh fruits and vegetables. More than 80% of all produce in Canada is imported.
