A small reprieve today for homeowners hoping to take advantage of Ontario’s $600,000,000 GreenOn program. Doug Ford canceled it without notice on Tuesday, giving homeowners until the end of August to complete work and still qualify for the environmentally friendly rebate.
In the face of public concern, Ontario’s incoming Premier has now extended the deadline by a couple of months. Tradesmen are feeling pressure to complete jobs on time.
Up until today, Eric Lancaster, a window installer, was hustling to get all his jobs done before August 31st.
He was working on Valya Roberts’ home. She saved $3,000 on a $3,800 basement window renovation through the GreenOn rebate.
She was looking into other energy efficient installations before Doug Ford announced on Tuesday the GreenOn program was cancelled and you can no longer apply for rebates.
Without the grant, she’s not sure she will do it at all.
She’s getting her windows done by Ken Mason. Owner Bob Elliot was feeling the pressure of the deadlines earlier today.
Bob has been receiving phonecalls all yesterday and today from customers confused if they’re going to get their money back.
But today around noon, Doug Ford announced that he will be extending the GreenOn installation date to October 31st on purchases made before Tuesday’s cancellation of the program.
Award Windows also has a lot of work to do, general manager Cory Quitt says the two month extension provides them with a bit of relief.
Homeowners have until November 30th to submit any outstanding rebate paperwork.
