Grandparent scammed out of $3000

First Published:

A Nanticoke resident is out three-thousand dollars after falling victim to a scam.  Investigators with the OPP say the grandparent had been contacted by someone claiming to be a lawyer.  He told them their grandson had been in an accident and was being charged with impaired driving.  In order to not spend the weekend in custody, he would have to pay a $3000 fee, The grandparent gave the man his credit card information and didn’t find out until later in the day that the scam had taken place.  Police urge anyone who is contacted in this manner to check with other family members first – and to not share any financial information
