Golden eagle worth $15K stolen from aviary near Acton

First Published:

Police are investigating after a golden eagle worth $15,000 was stolen from an aviary on Fourth Line near Acton.

The eagle, known as Riff-Raff, was taken sometime between Jan. 27 and Jan. 28.

“It is believed the thief would have extensive knowledge and training to handle a bird this size,” said OPP in a news release. “There are no indications that this was an act of protest.”

The eagle is brown with white flecks, 76 centimetres tall, 13 lbs and is about 3 years old. Police say although the eagle is a show and demonstration bird, it is not a pet and should not be approached.

Anyone with information OPP is asking one with information to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
