The Glen Abbey community in Oakville was built around one of the country’s premier golf courses. But now, that course could be dug up to make way for even more homes. The company that owns Glen Abbey has filed papers to redevelop the area. They notified the Town of Oakville they were considering developing the property, turning it into a community of mixed commercial and retail space along with 3 thousand homes.

It is considered one of Canada’s most prestigious gold courses. Glen Abbey stretches across 230 acres of land in the affluent community of Oakville. Built in 1976, the course was designed by legendary golfer, Jack Nicklaus. It has hosted 27 Canadian Open tournaments and is often cited as a key contributor to Oakville’s image and economy.

The CEO of Club Link, the owners of Glen Abbey, say the course is safe for now. The company is simply “protecting the future zoning” adding it could be five or ten years before anything is developed.
