Geraldine Copps remembered

First Published:

Dozens of people including family, friends and politicians joined together, Saturday morning, for the funeral of Geraldine Copps, a political matriarch.

Copps, 91, was born and raised in Hamilton. She was the late wife of Hamilton mayor, Vic Copps, and mother of one-time deputy prime minister, Sheila Copps.

The political matriarch was a longtime member of Hamilton city council and an ambassador for Hamilton who knew the city’s north and east had potential before they became prime real estate.

The funeral was held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Cannon Street East

Copps died on October 17, “peacefully of old age and dementia,” her family wrote. “Geraldine carved out her own respected reputation in public service, politics, volunteerism and advocacy for the environment and those with challenges.”
