Gaming facilities pay off for cities

First Published:

Both Hamilton and Niagara Falls have received a nice windfall from Ontario Lottery & Gaming for hosting gaming facilities.

The OLG’s first-quarter tax gaming revenue payment to Hamilton was just over $1.5 million, thanks to the slots at the Flamboro Downs racetrack, while Niagara Falls received just over $7 million from Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino Resort.

Municipalities that host OLG facilities regularly receive funds under a contribution agreement.  The amount they receive is based on how much revenue the facilities make.

Since the slots came into play in 2000, Hamilton has received nearly $67-million in non-tax gaming revenue.  Niagara Falls has received almost $50 million.
