Motorists are being warned that roadways will be slippery as freezing rain is expected to begin Monday morning.
Freezing rain warnings are in effect for Hamilton and Halton Region.
Environment Canada says the rain could be mixed with ice pellets at times. Between two to four millimeters of ice accretion is possible on untreated surfaces.
The freezing rain is expected to change over to rain around midday, before transitioning to snow and possibly mixed with ice pellets in the afternoon.
The weather agency says surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance,” states a public alert on Environment Canada’s website.
There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic.
