‘Fraudster couple’ arrested by police at downtown Hamilton hotel

First Published:

A couple was arrested at a downtown hotel following a fraud investigation by Hamilton police.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to the Sheraton Hotel at 116 King St. West after suspicion was raised about the “financial ability” of a couple who was staying there.

Investigators discovered the credit card the couple used to pay for the hotel room was not theirs.

Police went to the room and arrested a 48-year-old man and 38-year-old woman, both of Hamilton.

Officers found numerous pieces of identification including passports and credit cards that did not belong to the couple. They also fraudulent business cheques and computer equipment.

Both accused are charged with fraud under $5,000 and utter forged documents.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Friday while the woman is expected to be in court on March 9.

Anyone with information that could help police is asked to contact Det. Dave Wide at 905-546-4639.
