Four dead after fiery collision in Hamilton’s east end

First Published:

Four people have died after a stolen car hit a Pizza Pizza in Hamilton’s east end this morning.

Police say a man driving a stolen 2004 Toyota Prius was speeding down Main Street East towards King Street East around 2 a.m., when he lost control of the vehicle, mounted the curb and struck a hydro pole and was engulfed in flames.

The vehicle struck three pedestrians and debris from the crash hit a fourth. The three that were struck by the car all died, as did the driver of the vehicle. The person that was struck with the debris was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the car was not being pursued at the time of the crash, and impairment is being investigated as a potential factor.

The names of the deceased will not be released, as next of kin notifications are ongoing. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
