Some residents on the Hamilton mountain were woken up to the sounds of sirens and the smell of thick smoke and flames in front of their homes early this morning. Four cars were completely destroyed, fortunately no-one was injured, but the community is still on edge.

Residents who were affected by this act of violence are not only upset, they feel their lives were invaded.

Just minutes before Robert Forsyth’s car went up in flames, three other vehicles also burt to a crisp-including Patricia Kloet’s van. It’s the only vehicle her family has.

Just a couple of doors down, two others were set on fire at this group home.Tthe company’s van and an employee’s car. Rebecca Rogal was working inside the home at the time.

“I’m working night shift, went to the front door and saw 12 feet of flames.”

That’s four all together, one empress and three on East 6th Street just a few blocks away.  Some vehicle break- ins were also reported to police in the neighborhood overnight.

While Hamilton police say vehicle theft is not uncommon in a wide variety of areas form Waterdown to Ancaster, actual arson is rare.

A pack of matches were found on Empress this morning by our own Nicole Martin while reporting on this story.

They were handed over to police as evidence and there are no suspects just yet.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything to contact them and to talk with their neighbors. Police say they will up their presence in this area as this investigation continues.
