In an unusual move, a former French president has been sentenced to a jail term. Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of corruption and influence peddling in a Paris courtroom today. He was sentenced to one year in prison and a suspended sentence of two additional years. Sarkozy, who was president from 2007-2012 was convicted after being charged with trying to illegally gain information from a senior magistrate in a legal action. Sarkozy himself was involved in the action. The 66 year-old is entitled to request being detained at home wearing an electronic bracelet.
