Cause of morning apartment fire in central Hamilton under investigation

Hamilton fire crews responded to a multiple alarm fire in central Hamilton Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to a structure fire at an apartment building on Rebecca St., near Cathcart St. around 7:30 a.m.

Neighbours reported seeing heavy smoke from a unit.

Officials say the blaze was extinguished “very quickly.” There were no injuries but someone was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The fire was in a fifth floor unit, which is now in need of extensive repairs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
